CITB is one of the leading skills providers to the construction industry in the UK

CITB has a long history of operations with the UK since its formation in the 1960’s they are the main training board for the construction industry in the United Kingdom. It’s their job to help the construction industry attract staff and to develop their skills. CITB is a public body which has complete control of their budget & day to day activities. Funding for their operations is received through the Department for Education, they are fully accountable to government ministers and the UK Parliament. Training takes places in over 40 location across the UK.

A proven training body with a wealth of experience

CITB was launched on July 21st 1964 to provide professional & fully qualified staff to the construction industry.

With over half a century of experience, CITB have a wealth of knowledge to guide individuals & company’s through the process of gaining qualifications & skills.

The construction industry training board operates the National Construction College, HS&E tests & CITB apprenticeships in many locations throughout the UK which ensures easy access to obtainable skills no matter the background

Approved training organisations or ATO for short is a body that provides skills & training to individuals that adheres to industry standards

Many safety courses are available to everyone, no matter where their position in the workforce. From obtaining a CSCS card to refresher courses.

Become a CITB Apprentice

Apprenticeships with CITB usually last from between 2 & 4 years. The time allowed for this depends on where you are and the level of qualification that your looking to achieve.

There a 3 levels of qualifications available with the apprenticeships:

  • Level 2 – Equivalent to GCSE’s 
  • Level 3 – Equivalent to A levels
  • Level 4 – Equivalent to a degree 

All apprentices will be in full time employment, will be paid at least the minimum wage & when completed will receive a recognised  qualification. 

About Training Groups

CITB helps 86 training groups across the UK. Many of these are employers that group together to access affordable training for their employees.  Training is available for various trades within the construction industry which benefit from a reduction of up to 40%

There are many benefits of joining a training group, some of the most advantageous include:

  • Ease of booking the most suitable training course
  • Networking with other businesses can help share knowledge & sometimes create leads
  • Training as part of a group can come with substantial financial savings verses independent training solutions 

eCourse's

CITB’s online courses let you learn at your own pace & at any location that has access to the internet.

Course’s can be paid for online by individuals or your employer can buy a voucher for you to you.

There are currently 3 courses available to complete online:

  • Covid-19 – A course to help you understand how to setup & operate a construction site whilst adhering to the Covid-19 guidelines
  • Health & Safety Awareness – Learn all aspects to safe operating in the workplace, this course will support your application to apply for a CSCS card
  • SMETs Course – The Site management environmental training scheme is aimed at site managers to improve their overall understanding of environmental management within a construction site

National Specialist Accredited Center

The National Specialist Accredited Centre otherwise known as NSAC is an NVQ approved center that provides support to the specialist construction sector where there are limited options for learners to gain NVQ’s

Some of the sectors include:

  • Asbestos removal operative
  • Demolition site operative
  • External wall insulation operative
  • Heritage stone mason
  • Land drilling

Individuals looking to enroll on one of these courses must currently be in full time employment, must be at least 16 years old & must be able to attend the ‘off job’ modules.
